The Camino de Santiago Interpretation Centre surpasses 22,000 visitors
According to the information provided to the mayor’s office of Santo Domingo de la Calzada by the councillor responsible for the area, Blanca Redondo Dulac, and by the technical staff of the Camino de Santiago Interpretation Centre, the number of visitors the centre received throughout 2010 reached 9,106 people. The busiest period was from April to August, both inclusive, during which the number of visitors was 5,621, more than 60 percent of the total recorded that year.
With this, the total number of visitors since its opening in August 2008, although the “Camino de Sensaciones” came into operation a few months later in 2009, amounts to 22,866.
Regarding the municipal tourist information and Ninth Centenary promotion office located in this same Interpretation Centre, it received a total of 11,092 in-person enquiries in the same year, of which 9,305 came from Spaniards and 1,787 from foreigners, with the largest groups among the latter being the French (422) and the Germans (239).
In this case as well, the busiest period for enquiries was from April to August, both inclusive, with a total of 6,707.
To these figures, which reflect part of the tourism promotion work carried out by the City Council of Santo Domingo de la Calzada and the Interpretation Centre, it is necessary to add the second edition of the Theatrical Routes through the Historic Centre of the city and the more than 1,000 guided tourist walks for groups organised by the Centre itself in 2010.
