How to get from Madrid to Tui

HOW TO GET TO TUI FROM MADRID:

Currently, the Portuguese Way is the second most popular route among pilgrims who choose to start their journey in the town of Tui, in the province of Pontevedra.

Tui is the gateway to the Portuguese Way in Spain, connected to our neighboring country, Portugal, via the International Bridge that links Tui and Valença do Minho. This border bridge makes Tui a perfectly accessible location by any means of transport.

BY CAR:

If you decide to travel in your own vehicle, follow this route:

1. Leave Madrid via the A-6 Motorway towards A Coruña.

2. Take exit A-52, towards Puebla de Sanabria/Ourense/Vigo.

3. Take exit A-55, towards Tui/Portugal/AG-57/Baiona and follow the signs until you reach Tui.

The distance is approximately 590 km, and the trip takes about 6 hours.

BY PLANE:

The closest airports to Tui are Oporto, Vigo, and Santiago de Compostela. Whichever you choose, you will need one or more connections to reach Tui.

The ideal option is Vigo Airport, due to its proximity, as it is only 25 km away. From the airport, you can take a city bus operated by Vitrasa, which runs every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday and on Sunday afternoons. On Sunday mornings and holidays, the frequency is every 60 minutes. More information can be found at www.vitrasa.es, Phone: 986 29 16 00.

There are direct flights from Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Seville, Tenerife, and Valencia. Airlines operating these routes include Iberia, Air Europa, and Vueling.

BY TRAIN:

3.7 km from Tui is Guillarei, an important railway hub. You can reach Guillarei from Madrid by train:

⦁ Monday - Sunday:

Alvia, departure at 6:25 PM and arrival at 10:53 PM.

BY BUS:

There are no direct buses to Tui; you must travel to Vigo and then transfer to Tui.

⦁ Monbus operates two daily services to Vigo: 10:00 AM and 10:30 PM, with a journey duration of approximately 8 hours.

⦁ Once in Vigo, whether you arrive by train or bus, you can travel to Tui by bus with the company AISA AUTOMÓVILES DE TUY, S.L., Phone: 986 61 02 55.

⦁ They have a good schedule with several services throughout the day, except on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays when schedules are reduced.

⦁ Alternatively, you can travel from Vigo to Guillarei by Renfe train, which runs twice a day from Monday to Sunday, taking 30 minutes.

⦁ TIP: If you arrive at the Guillarei railway station, as noted earlier, it is located 3.7 km from Tui. Since there is no bus service, the best option is to take a taxi, which you can find at the station for a very affordable price.
