Itinerary: Portuguese Way from Lisbon
Itinerary: Portuguese Way from Lisbon
On the Portuguese Way, we will find and enjoy forests and ancient crosses. This surprising and beautiful route begins in Lisbon and passes through other representative cities of Portugal, such as Coimbra and Porto. It is a route with no major difficulties; there are a few more challenging stretches, but overall, it is an easy path to walk.
The signage along the route is correct, especially in the Galician territory, and the network of accommodations is growing, with an extensive network of both public and private establishments, particularly from Porto onwards.
It underwent a slight stagnation due to the famous apparition of the Virgin to three shepherds in Fátima in the 20th century. For a while, the Virgin took the spotlight, overshadowing the pilgrimage route to Santiago. However, interest in this route resurfaced, making it one of the most visited.
There are two itineraries: one known as the Portuguese Way by the coast and the other as the Portuguese Way through the interior, with the latter being the most popular and the most crowded.
On the Portuguese Way, the forests, charming manors, villages, chapels, and beautiful churches will be our companions on this delightful journey. Year after year, this itinerary gains more popularity, becoming the second most requested route of all in recent years, behind the French Way. You can’t miss it; experience this wonderful journey as soon as possible.
