The Camino with family: Reach Santiago with children

The Camino de Santiago is an enriching experience for all ages, and doing it as a family with children can become an unforgettable adventure. The key is to choose sections with short stages, good services, and attractive landscapes that keep the little ones motivated.

Two of the best options for families are the French Way from Sarria and the Portuguese Way from Tui. Both offer excellent infrastructure, comfortable accommodations, and safe routes.

French Way from Sarria

This is the most popular and best-equipped section of the Camino de Santiago. Starting in Sarria, pilgrims can cover the last 100 km to Santiago de Compostela in stages of between 15 and 20 km per day, making it ideal for families with children.

  • Services: Numerous hostels, hotels, and restaurants suitable for families.
  • Attractions: Enchanting forests, stone crosses, historic churches, and medieval bridges.
  • Recommended stages: Sarria - Portomarín (22 km), Portomarín - Palas de Rei (18 km), Palas de Rei - Arzúa (19 km).

Portuguese Way from Tui

The Portuguese Way from Tui is also an excellent choice for families. With a route of approximately 118 km to Santiago, it allows for shorter stages and offers a varied landscape of forests, rivers, and charming villages.

  • Services: Good accommodation and dining options along the route.
  • Attractions: Tui Cathedral, the historic center of Pontevedra, and the medieval bridge of Arcade.
  • Recommended stages: Tui - O Porriño (17 km), O Porriño - Redondela (15 km), Redondela - Pontevedra (19 km).

Tips for walking with children
