Itinerary of the Camino de Santiago from O Cebreiro

¿O Cebreiro - Santiago itinerary? What to see, discover and taste on the French Way

From O Cebreiro to Santiago: a spiritual journey through the heart of the Camino de Santiago

The O Cebreiro - Santiago itinerary is one of the most intense and magical routes of the French Way of the Camino de Santiago. Starting in the mountains of Lugo and descending to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, this journey crosses centuries-old villages, enchanted forests, and offers a full immersion in rural Galicia. At caminodesantiagoreservas.com we show you everything you can see, discover and taste stage by stage.

1. O Cebreiro - Triacastela (21 km)

Start the route in O Cebreiro, a legendary village with pre-Roman pallozas, views of the Ancares mountains and the church of Santa María, where the Eucharistic miracle took place. The descent leads you through mists and valleys towards Triacastela.

  • What to see: Church of Santa María, pallozas, Alto de San Roque.
  • Gastronomy: Galician broth and O Cebreiro cheese.
2. Triacastela - Sarria (18 km)

A stage of great natural beauty, where you can choose between the Ouribio river valley or the route via the Monastery of Samos, one of the oldest in the West. Arrival in Sarria marks the beginning of the Camino for thousands of pilgrims.

  • Optional: guided visit to the Monastery of Samos.
3. Sarria - Portomarín (21 km)

You walk through villages, medieval bridges and paths among oak groves. In Portomarín, visit the fortress church of San Nicolás, rebuilt stone by stone after the reservoir was constructed.

  • What to try: Portomarín cake and local spirits.
4. Portomarín - Palas de Rei (24 km)

A stage with a gentle profile and views of valleys and rural manor houses. Palas de Rei offers medieval history and tranquillity.

  • Curiosity: Pambre Castle, one of the few that resisted the irmandiña wars.
5. Palas de Rei - Arzúa (29 km)

You pass through Melide, famous for its octopus. You cross Romanesque bridges and paths between villages. In Arzúa, land of cheeses, you can enjoy a local tasting.

  • Gastronomy: Pulpo á feira in Melide and Arzúa-Ulloa cheese.
6. Arzúa - O Pedrouzo (17 km)

A route among eucalyptus forests and small villages. Perfect for meditating and connecting with yourself. O Pedrouzo offers calm before the grand finale.

7. O Pedrouzo - Santiago de Compostela (20 km)

The final stage is emotional. From Monte do Gozo you will see the towers of the Cathedral for the first time. Enter the holy city on foot and feel the emotion upon arriving at Obradoiro Square.

  • Perfect ending: Pilgrim’s Mass, visit to the Apostle’s crypt and Botafumeiro (if you're lucky).
